you'd get a picture of Fuse and Asellus at the beginning, you'd run around recruiting almost everybody again, and then go to fight (the other bosses and/or) Asellus's boss, and so on for everyone. And it seems like that's how it would work with everyone's story, i.e. What differed in part besides the story details is that Fuse could recruit almost anybody (including the leads of the other stories, barring Emilia) and then when it came down to infiltrating Trinity's base you got a little moment in the meeting room of the IRPO where you could talk to the story leads you'd recruited and go fight their bosses before fighting Lute's final boss at the end. Instead it was like, it showed a little picture of Lute and Fuse in the beginning, and Lute showed up next to Fuse in the saved game slot, and the main thrust of the game was getting a different perspective on Lute's scenario. be a full campaign that had moments that intersected with others in some vague jumble of events. So I saved Fuse for last, after clearing the other seven campaigns, because I assumed it would play out like the others, i.e. I'm not saying that you have to bother with Red Turnip or Slime or anything, but monsters have some good stuff in there if you work with them, and you don't have to form swap all the time when you get there. (You get an achievement for making a Black Dragon so I think they know it's a good form.) I don't even bother with eating anymore, because I'm happy with the moves he has, and he basically just sits there, tanks, heals (monsters can get the best single target heal in the game, because ?) and does alright damage with Shockwave. My Thunder is sitting on like 538 hp or so, but he's a Black Dragon too, and their defenses are ridiculously good-at most he takes 150 damage from a single attack at a time. Of course, you don't really need to max monster HP depending on what form you have on. They do get the expected bonus from it at the beginning, but at the same time sometimes you will absorb a move you've never seen before but your HP won't go up for no clear reason-well, that might be the reason. Secondly, every playable monster has a list of moves it's already counted as having absorbed for the purposes of HP gain from the start of each chapter. I mean, it's not as bad as modern gacha game probability, but if you want to get that one move from the tree there that wrecked your whole party, you're probably going to have to save scum. First of all it's randomly determined what move you get, with weighted chances (I believe it's 1/64 chance to get the rarest move, then 1/32, then 1/16th, and then if none of those happen you're guaranteed to get the last one, although it's probably something corny like Fang). There are of course wrinkles to this, because SaGa. Since monsters can have up to 4 individual learnable moves, you can theoretically eat the same monster four times and get four different moves each time, for a total of 16 hp. If your monster gains a move it's never had before, it gains the HP bonus ( which I think is actually 4 HP, not 2). It is definitely one reason I'd consider using new game+ with them, especially if I could set it to just monsters, so they'll slowly get enough types eaten over a few games.Īctually, monster HP gains from eating are determined not by which monster you've eaten, but rather what move you gain from the monster. Also helps to look up various monster requirements, because skills you have makes a difference to other things. Accepting especially early on you'll be a garbage monster a lot of the time. So you've gotta plan for this from square 1, day one, first battle. Doesn't matter how many other Axe Beaks you eat. But once you eat, say, an Axe Beak, that's it. See, total HP in a form is partially based on how many DIFFERENT types of monsters you've eaten. Ideally you want to be eating all sorts of different monsters, then figure out a stable core from the power form you want (Likely Black Dragon) and bounce between it and crap for a long time as you continue to eat other things so you keep getting more HP. Yeah, Riki's playthrough soured me entirely on Monsters, especially after I looked up all the hidden mechanics and saw how much it's not just 'get to powerful form, ignore eating' - because then you're still super low in HP.
